About the Job
The Director, Medical Science Liaison Lead is an established expert
in the field of precision oncology who has developed and continues
to expand long-term, well-established relationships with a robust
network of Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) at academic institutions to
support FMI's commercial and scientific objectives. The position is
responsible for understanding the significant dynamics and managing
a large region and initiating medical projects while working
independently.-- --Additionally, the position is responsible for
initiating and sustaining an exchange of scientific information
with key external customers and internal teams, such as by
conducting scientific presentations to health care providers, with
the goal of emphasizing the strengths of FMI's existing products as
well as with future development initiatives. This role promotes and
develops access to key thought leaders in their assigned region and
utilizes these relationships to further FMI's collaboration efforts
on educational and research opportunities and bringing products to
market.--
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, cultivate, and expand new and pre-existing network of
relationships with potential stakeholders and partners within
assigned region(s) including, but not limited to, KOLs, clinical
and research leaders, academicians, clinicians, medical directors,
and other health care providers within region and including FMI
strategic accounts.
- Understand key dynamics and expertly manage large
territory/region while working both independently and providing
Field team leadership, perspective and mentorship on field
activities associated with growing products and bringing new
products to market. May provide leadership and mentorship to
additional MSL team members .
- Initiate, lead, and expertly manage strategic projects and/or
initiatives in collaboration with Field leadership.--
- Provide regular thought leadership, support and education
regarding disease state awareness and FMI clinical data to
stakeholders as an expert in tailoring the message for the audience
.
- Facilitate advanced education regarding FMI products in the
hematology, oncology, and pathology communities as a scientific
expert through presentations and scientific exchange.
- Lead FMI's involvement in national, regional and local
scientific forums, including symposia, tumor boards, and training
meetings.
- Collaborate with others in medical affairs to develop advanced
scientific messaging for promotional materials.
- Develop and or contribute to advanced scientific messaging for
promotional materials.
- Develop and create materials such as slide decks, training
materials, white papers, monographs, case report summaries, and
clinical synopses.
- Maintain medical affairs initiations and interactions by
liaising and exchanging scientific information with physicians and
KOLs in oncology and pathology settings.
- Integrate efforts with Medical Affairs for organization of
scientific advisory boards, key opinion leader management,
coordination of clinical trials, and execution of publication
strategy.
- Gather market intelligence on competitor products and new
products in development.
- Provide leadership and strategies to develop advocates for FMI
and its products.
- Provide prompt response to complex scientific and genomic
inquiries from health care providers. Provide support and coaching
for MSLs to develop responses to inquiries when needed.
- Assist with identification of investigator-initiated studies,
guiding through the approval process and monitoring study
progress.
- Demonstrate exceptional communication and critical-thinking
skills. Demonstrated success training and teaching others
incorporating FMI medical messaging.
- Shares appropriate information in a clear and concise manner to
all stakeholders.
- Distills and disseminates information to appropriate FMI teams
through appropriate channels to elevate the voice of the
Field.
- Travel within assigned territory (daily), and to company
meetings (bi-annually).
- Travel within the designated region 70+% of working time and
outside the designated region up to 5% of working time.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- Master's Degree in medicine or genetics-related field
- 7+ years of work experience as a Medical Science Liaison in a
diagnostic, biotech, pharmaceutical, or other life sciences
company
- Deep familiarity of oncology care dynamics in the
territory
- History of current and sustained success building and
maintaining relationships with key health care professionals and
staff (thought leaders, KOLs, and others) to drive strategic sales
and marketing solutions and leverage customer relationships for
increased market share within assigned territory.
- Demonstrated success managing large and complex
territory
- Exceptional communication skills and experience training,
teaching, and mentoring others
Preferred Qualifications
- Any one of the following academic credentials: Doctor of
Philosophy, Doctor of Pharmacy, Doctor of Medicine, or Master's
Degree in Genetic Counseling
- 7+ years of work experience as an Medical Science Liaison in a
diagnostics, biotech or pharmaceutical company
- Fundamental subject matter expertise in cacer genomics.
Expertise in biomarker/therapeutic development
- Significant specific disease area expertise and insight using
clinical endpoints
- Fundamental understanding of principal cancer patient
management algorithms and clinical utility of laboratory-developed
molecular tests
- Thorough understanding of the field of oncology; knowledge of
oncogenomic and targeted therapy
- Familiarity with CLIA, LDT, Sunshine Act (2013), AdvaMed
Guidelines
- Strong business acumen (market analysis, market access
strategy, territory planning) combined with exceptional
interpersonal communication ability.
- Existing key opinion leader deep relationships within the
assigned region
- Residing or plan to relocate to assigned geography
- Willingness to travel often and on relatively short
notice
- Understanding of HIPAA and the importance of patient data
privacy
